Skills in website, social media etc a plus. Fluent Dutch and English necessary (for written translation, bilingual preferred). Prior teaching or research experience a plus (nice if you have taken the workshop week at CRG). Someone who is thoughtful, intrinsically motivated, detail-oriented, organised, a self-starter, creative. This would involve doing a literature review, as well as other research, possibly case study related, exploring readings and themes, occasional meetings with relevant individuals, some initial writing and organising to prepare for fieldwork and writing. Working on a research project (simultaneously academic and a public facing book) on the mechanisms of choice in armed conflict. Pulling together, preparing, researching two (predominantly online) courses, on negotiation and on conflict resolution. Tasks center around two main projects, as well as general organisational, online and administrative support, including some Dutch to English translation of texts relevant to our field and (guest)lecture related work.ġ. The work is going well, I am ramping up and in the early stages of setting up an(other) organisation. This involves training, speaking and writing on conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation, as well as sharing analysis on developments in conflicts and wars. Currently I am working independently in the conflict resolution field, both in armed conflict as well as closer to home. In 2022 my book Ontwapend was published on my experience mediating in armed conflict. I teach an annual course in the Conflict Resolution and Governance Master at UvA (which I love and where I have met several of you). Since 2008 I have been mediating in armed conflict, when I co-founded the Dialogue Advisory Group. Working hours remote and flexible, number of days and start and end dates somewhat negotiable. The internship would be for three days a week, ideally from the second week of January until the end of July 2024, for a monthly stipend of € 450. It is a remote and flexible role but I look forward to meeting regularly for support, catching up and progressing the work, either online or in a nice café. I will mentor and guide the intern throughout the internship. Internship alert! I am looking for an intern to assist me in my work in mediation in armed conflict and beyond. ![]() Resources & Connections - other experts, or available resources for their work. Chores support (did you know that most people involved in changing communities are women? These usually still have to show up at work and care for their families. You can't help if you don't know what they are really dealing with!) Formal donor-recipient relationships usually don't go to these levels, but they are necessary if the work is going to take hold. Friendship support (very informal relationship where they can feel comfortable talking, and expressing the truth. Education (how-to's related to the work/their success) Here's what that many of them need (in my experience): Take any community that you want to see transformed, or a person who you want to support. You invest in a person or community for the long haul, and in many dimensions (as many as the recipient(s) need). ![]()
